It is fair to say it all went horribly wrong for DC United Thursday in Costa Rica when they lost to Alajuelense 5-2 in the away game of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series.
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (AP) -- Costa Rica's Alajuelense beat D.C. United 5-2 Thursday in the first leg of a two-match CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal.
The conditions did not fit the result. Before a small crowd at R.F.K. Stadium a rainy night, it could not have been much better on the field for D.C.
With Major League Soccer down to its final month and the final push for the playoffs that goes with the dwindling regular season schedule, it would be understandable for D.C.
In CONCACAF Champions League play D.C. United is seeing red and that is okay.
